The International Economic Development Council, also known as the IEDC, is an organization for Economic developers. It has more than 4,000 members in North America and around the world, and is the largest organization of its kind in existence.[1] Its stated goal is to make the profession of Economic development higher profile, and to help those who work in Economic development do their jobs with ease.[2]

The IEDC was created as a result of a merger between the Council of Urban Economic Development (CUED) and the American Economic Development Council (AEDC) in May 2001. The CUED originated as "Helping Urban Business", or the HUB Council, in 1966. It changed its name to CUED in 1974.[3] The AEDC had been operating in various forms since 1926.[4]

The IEDC's stated mission is to help Economic developers with their jobs. IEDC provides several services to aid developers; including conferences, tracking of legislation, and certification. They also provide advisory services and publications on the subject of Economic development, including a newsletter, Economic Development Now.[5]

The Council is run by a Board of Directors, and by the CEO, currently Jeff Finkle; and their headquarters are located in Washington, D.C.. The IEDC is a not for profit organization, and is legally barred from endorsing political candidates and can only engage in limited lobbying activities.[1]
